A mini-split AC consists of one or more outdoor condenser units and one or more indoor air handlers.
You need at least one indoor unit for each zone. The typical system operates with two to four zones. You can add more zones as needed, up to the system’s maximum limit. For larger homes, there are ways to incorporate additional zones, such as adding a second outdoor unit. Once you’ve determined the zones, your installer can perform a load calculation for each. This will accurately identify the necessary size of the air handler for each zone. The combined output will indicate the required size of your condenser unit or units.
